Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is this SPAM for cell phones?
No, because the very first contact is the ONLY unsolicited contact. After the first contact consumers may 'opt out' and not be 'pinged' (contacted) by PinSpot ever again. Consumers who 'opt in' at the first contact, give their permission to receive future PinSpot messages, but can still, at any time in the future, permanently 'opt out' from receiving content from specific advertisers or PinSpot.

  2. Can I buy or rent the PinSpot device?
The PinSpot device is not for sale or rent. Parties wishing to use the PinSpot network rent time on the network for a specific period of time (just like TV commercials). That time period may be days, weeks or months.

  3. Does PinSpot track the consumer handset contacts?
Yes. The PinSpot proprietary system assigns a unique identifier to each handset at first contact. PinSpot can track the number of contacts, the kind of content viewed, when it was viewed, where it was viewed, how often and much more. For a more complete list of tracking features please contact us to arrange a presentation.

  4. Are there cell-phone network charges for receiving PinSpot messages?
No. PinSpot has no impact on pay-as-you-go, free minutes or cellphone connection charges. PinSpot delivers messages via Bluetooth and not the cell-phone carrier network. In fact, Bluetooth also allows PinSpot to send messages to handsets that do not even subscribe for any cell-phone services.

  5. How do I turn on my Bluetooth?
Each handset is unique in how it activates Bluetooth. Refer to the owner's manual of your particular handset to determine how to activate your Bluetooth and to determine in what location/folder PinSpot content may be stored on your particular handset.

  6. My handset requires that I identify Bluetooth devices (like headset) before it recognizes them. How do I program a PinSpot to be recognized by my handset?
Each handset is unique in what it requires to communicate with devices via Bluetooth. Some allow Bluetooth communications despite the particular device not being programmed, others do not. Refer to the owner's manual of your particular handset to determine if it ONLY allows identified devices (eg. headset) to communicate via Bluetooth. If your handset requires identification only, it likely is not OBEX enabled. If it can be set to 'discoverable', 'find me' or a similar mode then it is likely NOT limited to identification only.

  7. Do all Bluetooth handsets have Bluetooth OBEX?
Bluetooth OBEX is a standard part of Bluetooth capability. However some cell-phone service carriers instruct manufacturers to remove OBEX from some of the handsets the carrier offers for sale. Check with your cell-phone service carrier or the retail outlet where you purchased the handset to confirm that the OBEX has not been disabled. If it is disabled, PinSpot will be providing a solution to enable OBEX soon.

  8. How do I transfer a PinSpot file I received to another cellphone using Bluetooth?
Usually you just highlight the file on your mobile device and select "Options". One of the options will be to "send" the file. Select "send" and choose "Bluetooth". Most handsets will then look for Bluetooth devices in your area. Select the cellphone you wish to send the file and execute. (Please consult your owner's manual, as different manufacturers may have slightly different names for the functions described above).

  9. How do I transfer a PinSpot file to non-Bluetooth mobile device?
Usually you can attach the Pinspot file to a SMS, text or email message sent from your mobile device. Simply create your message on your mobile device, address the message, attach the PinSpot file to that message and send.

  10. How do I stop receiving PinSpot when I cannot complete Bluetooth connection?
If you are unable to make a valid Bluetooth connection, some mobile devices might show an error or freeze up. Without a valid Bluetooth connection to the PinSpot you cannot register on the "Exclude Me" list and "opt out". In such a case, to stop PinSpot from attempting to contact your mobile device, simply turn off the "discoverable" mode in the Bluetooth section of your mobile device. Different mobile handsets may call this something other than "discoverable", such as "Find Me" (we suggest you check your owner's manual for the correct terminology for your particular mobile device). Turning off your "discoverable" mode usually will not affect the normal operation of devices that are paired to your mobile handset, like a Bluetooth headset.
